This controller is designed to implement a printerspooler with the least possible number of external components. The chip handles all the handshaking protocol, allowing to build a complete printerspooler with only two latches and a RAM module.
The printerspooler implements a circular buffer and allows the print data to be quickly transferred from the computer to the RAM. Then the spooler can continue to send the data to the attached printer, thereby freeing up the computer for normal work.
